American Idol’s Kelly Clarkson falling for her own hype!
How quickly we change, Kelly Clarkson's sweet country girl persona is increasingly eroding right before our eyes and I find her calculated (and anxious) attempt to set herself apart from American Idol, the show that launched her career, pathetic. Everyone knows about the little scandal that occurred when Kelly initially refused to allow American idol use of her songs. When I heard that rumor I thought it must be untrue. That wasn't the Kelly Clarkson I had cheered for. Though I don’t listen to her music I think she has a stunning voice and have always enjoyed her humble persona. But success does have a way of getting in ones blood and tainting it...
Simon Cowell was, as usual, out spoken and blunt regarding Clarkson's ungrateful reaction to the shows request, saying, "No matter how talented Kelly Clarkson is, she would not be in the position she's in now without winning this show…It's the public who bothered to pick up the phone to vote for her...I don't like when they walk away from the show and kind of forget the people who put her where she is today...If she refuses to give songs to be used on the show, it's like saying to every person who voted for you, 'You know what, thank you I'm not interested in you anymore.' That is a big mistake."
When word got around about this brazen refusal, Clarkson along with her publicist realized Simon could be right, and didn't want to risk it, so they quickly did an about face agreeing to let American Idol use her material "on a case to case basis". Understandable I guess, she is a businesswoman now and needs to act accordingly but I have a feeling she would prefer that her name as "the first American idol winner," got "accidentally and magically" erased from the memories of the general public and music world. Clarkson herself acknowledged a bit of these feelings, saying, "That's where I got my start. They always talk about the big first thing that you did. I think the only thing that I do mind is I don't want people to only focus on that." But I say, that's what you get when you take the reality show road to fame; you will always be viewed as a little manufactured. But do you want to give back the opportunities you received from the show and start from the bottom? Unfortunately (for her) she will never be completely free of the American Idol stigma. We can't cry over spilled milk, can we? Especially since she has won two Grammy's and, oops, forgot to thank American Idol (and her idol fans) in both of her speeches (an oversight of course). She went from gushing over wanting to be like Mariah Carey, when she was a contestant on A.I. to winning the Grammy in the same category as her mentor, but never acknowledged what got her there. How soon we forget..
What really annoys me is her continued attempt to promote herself as the ever so grateful girl next door. I almost gagged when back stage at the Grammy's ET showed Kelly oohing and awing over Madonna, at one point gushing, "I wish I had you're thighs," to Madonna. Madonna responded with a congratulations (on winning two Grammy's) and an "I bet you do" grin (about the thighs) and politely strutted off. I guess Kelly’s quite busy sucking up to bigger fish...hey more power to you Kelly…
Lindsay Lohan will not be a Chanel model after all...Kate Moss, you can relax now!
I know I must sound like the grumpiest little B in the whole world today but is it bad for me to admit I WAS RIGHT? Months ago, after supermodel Kate Moss was let go for alleged drug use, Lohan bragged about being the new face of Chanel. I was shocked at the time and I appealed to the public (though no one replied) to explain to me how Lindsay Lohan could replace Kate Moss. That’s like going from Gucci to The Gap. It made no sense.
Recently Karl Lagerfeld, the designer icon, chuckled away the rumors that Lohan would be fronting his next Chanel campaign, explaining that Lohan would never have been an option because she is "too immature," adding, “I prefer Nicole Kidman and that generation.”
I know Lohan is on this big kick about wanting to be taken serious like Natalie Portman and Scarlet Johanson, but she needs to walk the walk (and quit whining) before anyone will bite.
Talk about whining…
Britney Spears says she wants to return to the music scene because she misses being “hungry,” touring and performing with her dancers. She claims that the pop scene has been stale since her departure and she can’t wait to get the party started, all over again. It appears that later this year we will be seeing a return of B.S. (no pun intended), since she’s hinting about returning to the studio. This could be bad people especially since Mr. Spears may threaten to rap on her new album..
I won’t lie I’ve enjoyed some Britney tunes. And once, and only once, I watched her concert in Hawaii and did enjoy it, (I also did want her abs and legs pre baby of course) but can’t we leave those days in the past (like a fun but forgettable one night stand). I don’t know if I can handle anymore cheesy, explicit, pop trash. Maybe what Britney views as stale pop is actually progress. Maybe, if the paparazzi keeps chasing her around it will persuade her to actually stay home and be a mommy for more then 6 months, and give us some more time to enjoy music before we are again bombarded by B.S (pun intended this time).
