First, I must say that this inauguration was the first I've watched in full and the most romantic. The Obama's have chemistry and they were beautiful looking. I envied those able to be part of such a historical and stunning night. The children looked adorable, Michelle Obama's outfits were gorgeous, and true to her style, and the celebrities and guests looked thrilled. If it were my inauguration I may have had Cassandra Wilson sing rather than Beyonce (though she did a great job) but for the most part it was exactly what I would have done.
Now that Obama is president a lot of people want to see if the golden child will bring instant results. I find it fascinating that the U.S. was so patient with Bush's trials and tribulations at least for the first 5 years but want Obama and his team to correct years of mess in weeks.
As Colin Powell said regarding America's reputation, “I think it’s recoverable. But to do that, Obama will need help: “He can’t do it alone. All of us have to help him in our homes, in our lives, in our businesses.”
We have to stop as a society looking for saviors, we all have to hold ourselves, our loved ones, our communities, not just our governments accountable.
Rush Limbaugh announced that he wanted President Obama's policies to fail in order to make America great again. His boy Bush was in office for eight years with many policies Limbaugh adheres too, has it made America better?
Today on Ellen's talk show, a older viewer who she regularly chats with called in. She said how excited she was about the new president and that she was speaking to a man at her grocery store who said he didn't understand the big fuss about Obama because, "he hadn't done nothing for them yet." And she said but already he has inspired hope and money can't buy hope. How right she is.
I hope Obama succeeds past our high expectations, not only to wipe the smug smiles off of people like that obnoxious, bitter Limbaugh but so America can truly be better and the world can. But he won't be doing it alone, he is not God, and I hope everyone remains inspired because if that stays true we can all make it happen in our own lives and the world.
It seems as if the way a president comes in hints to the way he will leave. Clinton came in trailed with sexual scandals and adoration from the public and he left that way. Bush came in with controversy and divisiveness and he left that way. With the tremendous joy, unity, dedication, passion and newfound hope Obama was ushered in with, I hope this hints to exactly the way he'll leave years from now.
Now that he has officially started his job I feel free to return to mine. There won't be as much politics on this site. I want to discuss the pleasure and pain of writing as I begin my second novel and begin the journey of getting my first published.
