Sarah Palin, Bill O' Reilly, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck are just some of the reasons why I am a petrified of conservatives. I'm not irrational, at least I try not to be, therfore, I tell myself (and understand) that not all conservatives are like them but when you have these ones as the face of that political movement some may understand why I cringe. But I do not dismiss conservative belifs completely. On more than one occassion, I have found myself agreeing with some Conservatives points. I am open to anything as long as it aligns with my beliefs and I do not believe in blind commitment to a politcal party, religion, or even relationships. I belive in questioning, knowing the facts and fighting for what you believe is right in a postive way. So it happens sometimes. But I have to admit I do enjoy the occasional brilliant slam pieces that are written about certain conservative members. Today that one is a piece written by Peggy Noonan called, A Farewell to Harms, Palin was bad for the Republicans—and the republic, (I enjoyed it because its rare. I find fellow conservatives rarely critcize their own in public, though they criticize every move Democrats make and never seem to have the ablity to say, "good job" to anyone that doesn't fit into their club).
Anyway, here is some excerpts that I particularly found interesting from her article. I suggest anyone with interest read the entire piece. Every paragraph of it is a accurate, on point, and truthful! (From my point of view at least).
"In television interviews she was out of her depth in a shallow pool. She was limited in her ability to explain and defend her positions, and sometimes in knowing them. She couldn't say what she read because she didn't read anything. She was utterly unconcerned by all this and seemed in fact rather proud of it: It was evidence of her authenticity. She experienced criticism as both partisan and cruel because she could see no truth in any of it. She wasn't thoughtful enough to know she wasn't thoughtful enough. Her presentation up to the end has been scattered, illogical, manipulative and self-referential to the point of self-reverence. "I'm not wired that way," "I'm not a quitter," "I'm standing up for our values." I'm, I'm, I'm. In another age it might not have been terrible, but here and now it was actually rather horrifying. "
""Now she can prepare herself for higher office by studying up, reading in, boning up on the issues." Mrs. Palin's supporters have been ordering her to spend the next two years reflecting and pondering. But she is a ponder-free zone. She can memorize the names of the presidents of Pakistan, but she is not going to be able to know how to think about Pakistan. Why do her supporters not see this? Maybe they think "not thoughtful" is a working-class trope!"
Over 900 people have responded to her post already and many are accusing Noonan of being mean spirited and not behaving thoughtfully herself.Others somehow find their usual way to bring in how "evil" Obama is for the country. Why can't they simply deal with the topic at hand, which is Pailin, without slinging dirt towards Obama. If they could blame Global Warming on him I think they would. I find it funny that many conservatives began questioning and spreading doom and gloom about Obama before he even became president, yet when anyone questions their own, Bush previously, and now Palin, they are viewed as traitors even when it is one of their own, who is encouraging the conservative party she loves to start seeking out true leaders who can bring their party back from the gutter.
